Updates on our fight

Farm Terrace Allotments, located in West Watford next to Watford Football Club and hospital, have been in existence since 1896.  Prior to this the land had been used as a sewage farm which now gives the allotments excellent soil structure to grow fruit and vegetables.

The site has always been popular with residents as the majority of the housing located in the area is terraced with small gardens or yards. The allotments originally provided home owners and tenants of the local Benskin Brewery a place to grow their own produce.

Farm Terrace used to be almost three times as large as it is now and it stretched along the back of the football ground and hospital, along three levels, before ending near the River Colne. Over the decades the allotment land has slowly been absorbed by Watford Hospital and a large amount of previous allotment land is currently used for a hospital car park.

The site has been popular with immigrants to this area of Watford and over the decades Italians, Portuguese, French and Jamaicans - to name but a few - have all made their home at Farm Terrace as part of a vibrant, diverse community.

If you would like to know more about our fight to save these historic allotments please feel free to read some more specifics about the case on this site. Additionally, if you would like to help in any way, either by donating to our fund or offering your time or ideas, we would love to hear from you.
